This is the heroic moment police officers rescued a kayaker who had become stranded off the coast of Spain.

The holidaymaker was pulled away by strong waves near El Portil in Huelva on Sunday, March 30.

Authorities said that the powerful currents caused him to fall off his kayak, leaving him stranded and unable to get back on.

He contacted the 112 emergency service using his mobile phone, which remained dry. Although he could not provide GPS coordinates, he provided visual details that allowed rescuers to locate him.

The boater was found in good health but visibly exhausted after more than an hour in the water.

Footage shows the kayaker holding onto his boat as Guardia Civil personnel approached. They helped him board the vessel and brought him to safety.

He was given hot drinks and energy food aboard the Rio Segura, where a nurse evaluated his condition.
