From April 11 to 13, due to a cold vortex system originating from Mongolia, northern China is experiencing an unusually widespread and sustained period of extreme, destructive wind — a rare occurrence for this time of year — with wind speeds reaching up to 150 km/h (93 mph).

On the morning of April 12, in Yangcheng County, Jincheng City, Shanxi Province, the roof of the Fengze Shopping Mall was ripped off by the powerful winds and blown onto the roof of a nearby Xinhua Bookstore.

Following the incident, local authorities organized the removal of the metal roof panels. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Shanxi's Meteorological Observatory issued a yellow wind warning on April 11, predicting that the province would be affected by strong winds from noon on April 11 through the evening of April 12.

Zhao Jianfeng, chief forecaster at the Shanxi Meteorological Observatory, stated that the strong winds, which began in the afternoon of the 11th, are expected to continue until the night of the 13th. In high-altitude areas of central and northern Shanxi, gusts may reach levels equivalent to Force 11–13 or higher on the Beaufort scale, posing a significant extreme weather risk.
