Exhausted and clinging to a dangerously steep slope for over an hour with a heavy pack, the hiker was in no condition to assist with her own rescue. The terrain was so treacherous that the rescue specialist made the call to climb up and physically bear hug her to safety—an intense decision driven by the risk of her letting go if asked to move her arms, which were locked in a desperate grip on the cliffside.
