DALLAS — The Dallas Zoo has announced the birth of a six-banded armadillo pup named Jaco, who arrived on April 4 to parents Jolene and Chaco.

The zoo shared the news this week, noting that Jaco’s name is a blend of his parents’ names. The pup is healthy and continues to grow under the care of animal staff.

Six-banded armadillos are native to South America and are known for their protective armored shells. The species is often used in educational outreach due to its unique appearance and behavior.

The Dallas Zoo is the largest zoo in Texas, housing more than 2,000 animals representing over 400 species. The zoo is committed to engaging visitors and supporting wildlife conservation around the world.
