This is the shocking moment a rider kicked over a fellow motorcyclist in a road rage attack in Thailand.

Dashcam footage shows Amornthep Boonsri, 26, launching a kick that knocked Suphakorn Sri-inta, 47, off of his motorbike in Chiang Mai, on April 17.

Onlookers cried out in panic as Suphakorn fell head-first onto the pavement before rolling across the road. Amornthep fled before police and medics arrived at the scene.

Suphakorn, a worker at the Chiang Mai Zoo, was rushed to the hospital with three broken ribs and multiple abrasions. An MRI scan revealed he had no severe brain injuries.

He said: 'Before the incident, I was riding near the Wat Chet Yot temple when out of nowhere, a man on a motorcycle drove toward me and accused me of cutting in front of him. Even though I know I didn't, I raised my hands and apologised because I didn't want any trouble. I had a wife and kids to take care of.

'I rode on thinking the issue had been settled, but the rider continued following me and trying to provoke me. I just kept ignoring him. I had driven around 150 metres when he kicked me and I fell, as seen in the clip.

'I think his actions were excessive. He could have killed me even though I've never had any conflict with him. It was an extreme, dangerous reaction. I'm going to pursue legal action to the fullest extent of the law.'

Police said Amornthep turned himself in to the police station in the evening.

A Chang Phueak police spokesman said: 'Before the incident, the perpetrator had a serious row with his wife and threatened to kill her. He then left the house and kicked the motorcycle rider while venting his anger.

'After the incident, he fled and hid his motorcycle. However, he turned himself in because of public pressure after the video spread online. He claimed he was furious and blew up when the other rider allegedly cut him off.'

Officers said Amornthep will be charged with assault causing severe injury, reckless driving, driving without regard for safety, driving without a licence plate, and driving without a driving licence.

Road rage incidents are common in Thailand, which has one of the world's worst road safety records.

Despite being one of the wealthiest countries in Asia, the country suffers from chronic underinvestment in its highways and education, contributing to its poor road safety levels. Only a handful of African countries are worse.

Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
