In the early morning hours of April 26, 2025, the Ansonia Police Department responded to multiple reports of a possible street takeover and fireworks being set off at the intersection of Wakelee Avenue and Franklin Street. Upon arrival around 12:25 A.M., the first responding officer encountered a chaotic scene with between 50 and 100 individuals and dozens of vehicles driving recklessly in the area.

As the officer approached, a group surrounded the police vehicle, with at least one individual jumping onto the hood and others throwing objects, causing damage. In an effort to retreat, the officer accidentally struck a parked car. Thankfully, no injuries were reported during the incident.

Additional officers quickly arrived, prompting the crowd to disperse onto Route 8 in both directions. The Ansonia Police Department is actively investigating and working to identify suspects. Officials urge the public not to share or repost videos circulating on social media, as doing so may encourage similar disruptive behavior. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Ansonia Police at 203-735-1885 or leave anonymous tips via Tip411.
