K9 Koda, Warden Voter Locate Missing Toddler in Maine Woods
JAY, Maine — A two-year-old girl who went missing Tuesday morning was safely located in the woods by Maine Warden Service K9 Koda and Game Warden Jake Voter, bringing relief to her family and the community.
The child was reported missing around 11 a.m. after her mother noticed she had wandered from their home. Family members searched the immediate area before calling 911. Due to the child’s age, multiple agencies responded quickly, including the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Jay Police Department, Jay Fire Department, NorthStar EMS, and 14 Maine Game Wardens, including two K9 teams.
By 1:15 p.m., K9 Koda and Warden Voter located the toddler in thick brush approximately 300 yards from the house. The child was alert with only minor scrapes and was examined and released by emergency medical personnel before being reunited with her family.
“Warden Voter and K9 Koda did an excellent job locating this young toddler in the thick woods where she was hidden by the brush,” said Maine Game Warden Sgt. Scott Thrasher. “It was great teamwork by multiple agencies that made for a very happy ending.”
The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife praised the swift coordination and successful outcome, crediting teamwork and preparation for the safe recovery.
