Floodwaters Inundate Westernport Fire Station Amid Widespread Emergency
WESTERNPORT, Md. — Heavy rainfall Monday afternoon caused severe flooding throughout downtown Westernport and surrounding areas, including dramatic scenes at the Westernport Fire Department, where water poured into the station itself.
Video shared by Potomac Fire Company No. 2 showed the firehouse inundated as emergency crews coordinated a rapid and widespread response. A unified command was established, and mutual aid departments responded to dozens of calls, including rescues and evacuations at Westernport Elementary School, homes, and local businesses.
“The response effort was swift, coordinated, and lifesaving,” the department wrote on Facebook.
While the full extent of damage is still being assessed, officials say cleanup will begin in earnest Tuesday and could take days or weeks.
“We are resilient, and we will rebuild — together,” the department added, thanking local and state agencies, first responders, and volunteers for their support during the crisis.
