The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) crew rescued two stranded walkers in Wells after they were trapped by the incoming tide.

The incident occurred on Thursday, April 17, around 3:27 pm, prompting a response from emergency services.

Officials said the lifeboat launched within 12 minutes and quickly located the pair at 3:44 pm on a sandbar to the west of the harbour mouth.

The holidaymakers were brought aboard and safely transported back to the lifeboat house.

Mandy Humphreys, Wells RNLI Water Safety Officer and lifeboat crew member, said: 'Getting cut off by the tide can be very dangerous. Anyone who becomes cut off should call 999 and ask for the Coastguard, and stay dry and calm until help arrives.

'Wading through water, especially over marshes or sandbars, can be extremely hazardous, with rapidly changing depths posing a serious drowning risk.

'To help avoid becoming cut off, people are advised to return to dry land with no channels or drains to cross at least four hours before Wells bar high tide time.'

The duo required no medical attention following the ordeal.

The RNLI saves lives at sea through its 24-hour search and rescue services around the UK and Ireland. With 238 lifeboat stations and over 240 lifeguard units across the UK and the Channel Islands, its volunteers are dedicated to maritime safety.
