Fearless man pries open burning car door with bare hands to rescue trapped driver
On May 1st in Shaoguan, Guangdong Province, two cars collided violently while driving, causing one vehicle to overturn and catch fire, with flames quickly spreading. The driver inside lost consciousness, his life hanging by a thread.
A passing man spotted the emergency, immediately called 120, and without hesitation ran toward the burning car. As the door had been deformed in the crash and wouldn’t open, the man risked his own safety and pried the door open with his bare hands, successfully pulling the unconscious driver to safety.
It was later revealed that the rescuer was Zhong Wei, director of the Agricultural Office in Shensuo Town. Zhong admitted he was scared, knowing the car could explode at any moment, but said that his basic first-aid training and the urgency of the fire left no time to wait for professionals. “If I had to choose again, I’d still save him,” Zhong said. “I just did what I had to do. As a public servant, I must be at the front line.”
The Shaoguan City Foundation for Courageous Acts stated it will award Zhong Wei in recognition of his bravery.
