Monitor lizards scramble to catch fish in Bangkok park
Monitor lizards raced to catch a fish in front of amused crowds at a park in Bangkok, Thailand.
Footage shows the first reptile crawling toward the flapping creature on the concrete ground at Lumphini Park.
The lizard failed to bite its prey before a second one appeared, trying to compete for food.
They munched on the fish until it stopped moving, and a third reptile joined the chase.
Soon after, a fourth one entered the scene, adding to the chaotic chase, which had more joggers stopping to watch.
Onlooker Kim Lennie Gumanib said: 'Where the real VIPs aren't tourists—but these massive monitor lizards. They roam like they own the place, chilling in ponds, crossing paths like celebrities, and low-key scaring joggers.'
Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.
The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite, which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country,y so their population thrives.
