Firefighters rescued five children trapped in a lift in Indonesia.

The youngsters were stranded in a jammed elevator at a church in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, after their worship service on Sunday, May 18.

Local media reported they were heading to the basement when the passenger lift suddenly halted.

Syamsul Huda, Head of the South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Department, said: 'The incident occurred at 12:20 pm. The elevator suddenly stopped. Our team was called, and four officers were deployed to carry out the rescue.'

Dramatic footage shows emergency responders using tools to forcefully open the lift, then carrying the children out one by one from the cramped space.

The evacuation took around an hour. No injuries were reported.
