On the morning of May 27, at around 8 a.m. in Xiping County, Zhumadian City, Henan Province, a 102-year-old woman mistakenly thought a third-floor window was a door and climbed out, leaving her body dangerously suspended in midair.

As she quickly became physically exhausted and appeared on the verge of falling, passersby and nearby shopkeepers who witnessed the scene immediately called emergency services for help.

One shopkeeper, thinking quickly, organised people to pull out an artificial turf mat from the shop entrance to catch the elderly woman in case she fell.

Over a dozen people gathered and stretched out the mat together. Just after they had opened it fully, the woman lost her grip and fell. On her way down, she hit the signage of a first-floor shop but was ultimately caught safely by the crowd holding the mat.

Afterward, her family rushed her to the hospital. Doctors confirmed she only sustained minor scrapes, and she was discharged later that afternoon to recover at home.
