On the evening of May 20, the world’s first flying saucer-style electric manned aircraft (eVTOL) experienced an accident during its maiden flight at Lakeside Square in Park 1903, located in the Dianchi Resort Area of Yunnan. The drone first tilted to the left and then lost control, rolling and crashing into the lake. It is currently unclear whether there were any injuries.

According to informed sources, the test flight that evening was unmanned. Originally, there had been plans for a "manned flying saucer" show to be held every night at 8:20 PM in Park 1903 through June 20, but the event has now been suspended.

This aircraft, developed by Shenzhen Smart Drone UAV Co., Ltd., has a diameter of 5 metres and has obtained a global invention patent. It features an integrated glass canopy cockpit with two seats inside, offering a 360-degree unobstructed view, allowing passengers to fully enjoy the beauty of nature and the starry sky. Its six-axis, twelve-ducted-fan design gives it a flying saucer appearance while also ensuring the safety of people nearby. Currently, the product is mainly used in sightseeing tourism and promotional performances, with a controlled flight speed of 21.6 km/h.

According to Shenzhen Smart Drone UAV Co., Ltd., the manned flying saucer incorporates multiple safety designs, including redundancy in batteries and flight control systems, as well as crash-resistant seat and cabin frame structures. The blades are enclosed for added safety, allowing people to be in close proximity. The flying saucer is also capable of taking off and landing on water, making it adaptable to lakes, rivers, and oceans.
