Miracle: Passenger in Seat 11A Survives Air India Crash, Recounts horror
Script:
Amid the devastation of the Air India Flight AI171 crash, a miracle has emerged.
CCTV footage showed the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner taking off from Ahmedabad at 1:39 p.m. on Thursday, bound for London Gatwick with 242 people on board. Just moments after liftoff, the aircraft lost altitude and crashed into a nearby residential area, erupting into flames.
At Ahmedabad’s Civil Hospital in Asarwa, 40-year-old Vishwash Kumar Ramesh lies on a hospital bed, recovering from chest, eye, and foot injuries. Remarkably, he is one of the few known survivors of the deadly crash—and he shared his story with Hindustan Times.
“Thirty seconds after take-off, there was a loud noise and then the plane crashed. It all happened so quickly,” Vishwash said.
A British national who has lived in London for two decades, Vishwash had come to India to visit family. He was flying back with his brother, 45-year-old Ajay Kumar Ramesh, who was seated in a different row.
“When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I was scared. I stood up and ran. There were pieces of the plane all around me. Someone grabbed hold of me and put me in an ambulance,” he recalled.
Still holding his boarding pass for seat 11A, Vishwash now anxiously awaits news of his brother. “We visited Diu. He was travelling with me and I can’t find him anymore. Please help me find him,” he pleaded.
At the hospital, heartbroken families continue to search for their loved ones, as emergency teams work to identify victims and assist survivors.
