Activists hurled bank notes in protest at the lack of government funds in Italy.

Four demonstrators from the Bruciamo Tutto, or 'We Burn Everything' movement, staged a nonviolent demonstration at the Ministry of Economy and Finance entrance in Rome on June 11.

One participant unfurled a banner bearing the campaign slogan 'An Income to Escape', while two others scattered large quantities of fake lilac-coloured zero-euro banknotes on the ground.

An activist said they aimed to draw attention to the inadequate funding of the Reddito di Liberta or the Freedom Income.

The fake banknotes, they explained, symbolised the funds missing from the system.

The group said: 'We are Bruciamo Tutto, and today we're taking action to denounce the insufficiency of funding for the Freedom Income. This is a measure that could save the lives of people experiencing domestic violence, but—as symbolised by these 0-euro bills—it doesn't work well enough.'

Police identified the activists at the scene and filed complaints while keeping them on site.

Reports noted that since May 2024, only 42 per cent of applications for the Freedom Income have been approved, even when applicants met all the necessary criteria.

The remaining requests were reportedly rejected due to insufficient funding.

The Reddito di Liberta is an Italian government assistance programme that provides financial support to women who are victims of domestic violence, helping them move towards safety and independence.
