This is the dramatic moment a flash flood surged into a home during heavy rain in Indonesia on Monday.

CCTV captured the rising water level as muddy torrents filled the property in the Pekalongan Regency of Central Java on January 20.

Across the region, at least 16 residents were killed during the torrential weather, which triggered landslides and severe floods. Nine others are still missing.

The Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency for Central Java Province, Bergas Catursasi Penanggungan, confirmed that among the 16 victims who died were fishermen and people seeking shelter, some of whom were hit by landslides and flash floods.

He said: 'There has been a broken bridge due to heavy rain. The current condition is that the route is paralyzed. Two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles can only reach Kayupuring Village, Dukuh Tembelan. Meanwhile, access towards Kasimpar Village and the Petungkriyono District Center is isolated or inaccessible.'

On January 18 in Kuningan Regency, West Java, three houses collapsed due to erosion caused by continuous rainfall.

Indonesia and some neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia have been experiencing monsoon season, which brings soaring temperatures followed by powerful afternoon rainstorms, leading to widespread flash floods.
