Kind husband prepares meals for families evacuated during floods
A kind husband cooked meals in his flooded home and shared them with families staying at a local evacuation centre during the floods.
Chito Culala's house was submerged during the onslaught of Typhoon Wipha, but he still did what he could to help neighbours in Manila, the Philippines.
Footage shows Chito preparing packed food in his kitchen amid the brown floodwater on July 23.
He then brought the rice meals to a covered court being used as a temporary shelter for badly hit residents and handed them out.
Proud wife Jaris said: ‘My husband is very kind and soft-hearted. Heavy rain poured, and floodwaters entered our house.
‘While I was looking for him to help me move our belongings to safety, I found him busy asking for help to prepare food for the people staying at the evacuation centre in the basketball court near our home.
‘He felt pity for the people's condition, especially the elderly and the children, so he decided to feed them even if it was just something to ease their hunger.'
Jaris added that they had to close their store due to the bad weather, leaving them with no income, but Chito still chose to help others who were in greater need.
She said: ‘Even though our business is struggling, he did not hesitate to help others. He may not be able to help financially, but he still found a way to extend help in any way he could.'
The deluge came as Typhoon Wipha battered the country, bringing heavy rainfall and flash floods. The storm also triggered deluges in Thailand, Vietnam, and Hong Kong.
At least seven people were killed and more than 60,000 displaced in the Philippines alone.
