The NATO and Estonian City of Narva is right on the Russian border just 200 metres away!
The small Estonian border city of Narva is right on the NATO front line as the Russian border is 200 metres over the river that flows past.
Located on the West Bank of the Narva river the city is located at the far eastern edge of the country.
With Narva on the western bank of the river it has a population of around 53,000. Narva is Estonia's third-largest city.
Narva has a history of cloth and cotton making and spinning powered by the water generation from the river. There are still many large former Kreenholm factory buildings in the area.
The city was destroyed in World War 2. The once fortified city has the Hermann Castle at its centre which faces the Russian Ivangorod Fortress on the other side of the river.
Popular with anglers from both countries they are often seen wing into the river to fish. Military boats from both countries do patrol the river from their respective sides.
