This is the shocking moment large rocks tumbled down a mountainside toward local officials inspecting a road during severe weather in Vietnam.

Footage shows boulders sliding from the cliff toward the group, who had gone to assess the area's safety after days of heavy rain from Typhoon Wipha in Nghe An province on July 22.

The rocks, dislodged by erosion, were about the size of microwave ovens and smaller ones as big as basketballs.

One chunk struck a roadside barrier and ricocheted, prompting the men to scramble out of the way.

Local officer Vi Thi Quyen said: ‘Upon receiving news, we went to the scene to inspect. We were about to set up a barrier to block the road but the rocks suddenly fell.'

All of the team members were unhurt and avoided the rocks.

Typhoon Wipha made landfall in northern Vietnam on July 22, weakening into a tropical storm while dumping torrential rain across the country.

The storm caused at least three fatalities, left one person missing, and inflicted widespread damage to homes and crops.
