UK: Thousands Protest In UK Town To Block Migrant Housing Plan
Waterlooville, United Kingdom - July 31, 2025 A video filmed by Mark Lambeth shows a large protest erupting in Waterlooville, where residents gathered to oppose a plan to house asylum seekers in new flats. Mark Lambeth stated, “Waterlooville says no to illegal migrant men, HUGE TURNOUT!!” The demonstration, held last night, drew over 1,000 people to the town centre, where many waved flags and sang while chanting, “send them home.” The protest follows the government’s plan to accommodate 35 asylum seekers in £250,000 flats located above shops. The proposed housing includes space for couples, single parents with young children, and a single unit intended for a lone woman. Criticism of the proposal has come from several public figures. Suella Braverman called the plan “utterly inappropriate,” and later posted on social media: “Very proud of the people of Waterlooville tonight... To the Home Office and Havant Borough Council, we say: no.” Braverman claimed the proposal would “dump further pressure on policing, healthcare and public infrastructure,” and described the plan as “insulting to local people.” Councillor Phil Munday responded by accusing Braverman of using “inaccurate language” and said the comments were “quite frankly offensive.” He clarified that the plan is to house “a mix of families and individuals,” not only “dangerous single men.” Resident Nicola Lattimer said, “We’ve had enough of the government, they just are not listening to anybody.” Another protester, Sue Johnston, questioned the Prime Minister’s intentions, asking, “What is the end game for all these immigrants he’s letting in?” The Home Office is currently conducting a consultation on the proposal, set to end on Friday.
