Pilot gives emotional speech to whole plane on Jetstar Asia’s last flight to the Philippines
This is the touching moment a pilot gives an emotional speech to the whole plane on Jetstar Asia's last flight to the Philippines.
The low-cost Australian airline had already announced in June that it would permanently cease operations the following month, reportedly due to rising costs and competition in the region where it operates.
More than 500 employees, including over 100 pilots and nearly 300 cabin crew, are set to be laid off.
Traveller Aprille Ocampo took the chance to be on the last Jetstar flight from Singapore, where it is headquartered, to Manila.
She said: 'I intended to return to Manila the first week of August, but moved it earlier just to be on this flight. I've been flying with Jetstar Asia since 2017, at least three times a year, and I didn't want to miss this last opportunity. Again, thank you, Jetstar Asia.'
Footage captured by Aprille shows Captain Roy Agarrado aboard flight 3K763 giving his message to the passengers before departure.
Captain Roy said: 'Good morning, everyone. You're very fortunate to join us today, as this is our last day. Thank you so much. In fact, this is the second flight out of Singapore. One is Okinawa, they already left. Ours is to Manila, and then we transit to Kansai.
'Happy to tell you that the weather is good, clear skies, not so bumpy, but when you are sitting, just keep your seatbelts fastened.
'I would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts on behalf of Jetstar for taking care of us for the past 20 years. I hope we see each other again, wherever we may be. All of us will be scattered around, we will be like - I don't know - children without parents. That's a bit melancholic.'
Captain Roy also expressed his gratitude to the cabin crew members and his co-pilot.
On the same day, the emotional captain, who had worked for the airline for 18 years, was also flying along with his wife and son on board.
Captain Roy added: 'Tonight we prepare the best group for you. Enjoy, thank you so much, and good morning!'
The plane erupted in cheers as the pilot entered the flight deck to prepare for takeoff.
Tracking data shows the Airbus A320 departed at 2:41 am and safely landed at Ninoy Aquino International Airport at 5:56 am.
