Trembling passengers were seen praying for a safe landing as severe turbulence hit their flight.

Jay Festin was travelling from Hong Kong onboard Cebu Pacific flight 5J111 when an intense air disturbance shook the nearly two-hour journey on July 29.

Scary footage taken inside the twin-aisle Airbus A330 shows holidaymakers screaming and whispering prayers as the aircraft moved violently mid-air.

Jay recorded his own hand quivering while nearby families sat with their eyes shut, quietly pleading to the heavens.

When the ordeal finally ended, relieved fliers burst into cheers.

Jay said: 'We may not have gone on any extreme rides at Disneyland, but this was definitely the most extreme ride any of us had ever experienced - inside an aircraft.

'All I could say and think in that moment was a prayer, asking the Lord to keep us safe, as I looked around at the faces of the other passengers, many on the verge of tears, anxious and afraid.

'We spent over an hour in the air feeling like we were on a space shuttle. Even now, I can still feel the trembling in my body.'

Flightradar24 data shows the aircraft departed Hong Kong International Airport at 11:51 am and landed safely at Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila at 1:46 pm.

Jay also said that the experience scared him, and he will avoid air travel for a while. He expressed his gratitude to the pilots and flight attendants for keeping everyone safe.

Turbulence is yet to cause a plane to crash. However, passengers are often injured - or occasionally killed - by the violent force of the plane being shaken.
