Passengers injured by turbulence on flight to Italy as ambulances respond after landing
Passengers were reportedly injured when a flight to Italy suffered severe turbulence, with ambulances rushing to the scene upon landing.
Prawit Deerasa was travelling from Thailand on ITA Airways flight AZ759 bound for Italy when the nearly 12-hour journey was shaken by intense air disturbance on September 10.
The Airbus A330 departed from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport at 12:16 pm local time.
Footage captured by Prawit shows what appears to be vomit scattered across the cabin floor. Several emergency responders were also seen moving through the plane after attending to distressed travellers.
Prawit said: 'The aeroplane was hit by turbulence, and I was shocked. Crew and passengers were injured, and first aid was administered on board.
'Emergency ambulances were waiting to receive the injured upon landing - it was an extremely frightening incident. My heart was in my throat the entire time.'
Tracking data shows the aircraft landed safely at Rome's Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino Airport at 6:27 pm local time.
Turbulence is yet to cause a plane to crash. However, passengers are often injured - or occasionally killed - by the violent force of the plane being shaken.
In May 2024, a Singapore Airlines flight from London Heathrow was struck by severe turbulence over Myanmar and forced to make an emergency landing in Thailand.
One British passenger onboard the Boeing 777 died and dozens more were injured.
