Bakersfield, United States - August 11, 2025 08/10/2025 08:00 pm GMT-0700 BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Bakersfield Police Department and Bakersfield Fire Department responded to the area of Highway 178 and Kern Canyon Drive after receiving reports of an all-terrain vehicle crash that ignited a small field fire on the evening of August 10. Firefighters extinguished the blaze shortly before officers arrived on the scene. Once the flames were out, first responders discovered that an adult male had succumbed to his injuries. The deceased has been identified as 32-year-old Leon Saldana, an off-duty Los Angeles Police Department officer who was camping with family in the Bakersfield area. Two other individuals were treated for unspecified injuries.
