This is the heartwarming moment a kitten was pulled to safety after spending more than two days trapped in a roadside drain in Thailand.

The three-month-old moggy reportedly slipped into the drain while fleeing from stray dogs in Ang Thong province.

However, it was left stranded for more than two days.

Worried locals called animal rescuer Ratha Tapianthong, who rushed to the scene on September 14 after receiving reports of desperate cries coming from beneath the pavement.

Residents were trying to prise open the heavy concrete cover when she arrived. She peered through the grate and spotted the three-month-old tabby stuck inside.

Footage shows Ratha and several bystanders trying to pry up the manhole cover. When it proved too heavy, they cut through the grilles, with Ratha plucking the exhausted stray from inside.

The villager who notified Ratha said: 'I've been hearing the kitten crying for two days but I couldn't rescue it by myself. I think it may have been escaping from a dog, and it slipped through a broken section of the drain cover.'

The resident has decided to adopt the feline, which is recovering in her care.
