This is the heartwarming moment a group of kind passersby rescued a calf that was stuck in a ditch.

Sornsawan Kittipornphanich and his friends were walking along a muddy off-road path when they noticed the helpless two-month-old brown bovine in Chiang Rai, Thailand.

The locals immediately rushed to help pull the animal out of the pit on September 3.

Footage shows one man balancing himself on a fallen tree while his mate carefully climbs down into the ditch.

The lad wearing a black cap then gently lifts the calf as another friend helps pull it to safety.

Sornsawan said: 'It was during a period of heavy rain when the path became slippery due to a landslide. Locals had placed wooden logs to block off the area. It's believed the calf slipped and fell while walking, but luckily, we arrived just in time to rescue it.'

The calf did not sustain any serious injuries from being trapped.
