A violent storm swept across Andalusia on October 29, 2025, producing a swirling funnel over the town, according to video filmed by Alonso Perez Velo. Huelva province was on red alert for torrential rain, gale-force winds, and tornadoes or downbursts. The vortex appeared in mid-morning as rain and fog drastically reduced visibility.

Homes lost roofs, trees were uprooted, and walls collapsed, leaving debris strewn across the streets. Nearby, a football field in Isla Cristina was damaged by a similar waterspout. Video footage captured flying objects and collapsing structures, while residents reported a “deafening explosion-like noise.”

Emergency services were overwhelmed, receiving over 900 calls for flooding, entrapments, and wind damage. Huelva and Seville experienced the worst conditions, with streets turned into rivers and submerged vehicles. Almonte recorded Spain’s highest daily rainfall total, setting a new regional record.

A 53-year-old man suffered serious injuries when a terrace awning fell on him and remains in intensive care. No deaths have been reported. Authorities continue to investigate whether the violent vortex was a true tornado or an exceptionally powerful downburst. Spain’s weather agency, AEMET, had previously issued warnings for tornado risks across five provinces.
