Rampaging boars run along road before being subdued by police
This is the dramatic moment a herd of rampaging boars charged down a road before being subdued by police.
More than ten wild hogs were seen wandering through city streets and chasing locals in Liaoning, China, on November 7.
Footage shows the animals charging at frantic pedestrians, with several residents screaming and running for safety.
Police were called and rushed to the scene as the boars bolted through traffic and into nearby residential compounds.
In another clip, two officers were seen shooting one of the animals from a rooftop.
A motorcyclist was also filmed striking a fallen hog with a large rock, causing the creature to convulse as blood spattered on the ground, apparently killing it on the spot.
A spokesperson for the Fengcheng Public Security Bureau said officers cleared all ten boars from the city and confirmed that no injuries had been reported.
Residents were later assured that the streets were safe and the animals were no longer visible the following morning.
Local media reported that China's wild boar population has risen to around two million, with increasing numbers straying into urban areas and causing damage.
In 2023, wild boars were removed from China's list of protected terrestrial wildlife species, meaning they are no longer classified as state-protected.
Jin Kun, director of the Institute of Protected Areas at the Chinese Academy of Forestry, said: ‘The animals often descend from mountains in spring and autumn to look for food.'
