A wildlife rescuer in Gujarat’s Valsad district revived a snake that had fallen unconscious after suffering an electric shock, performing mouth-to-mouth CPR for nearly half an hour in a rare and dramatic rescue.

The incident unfolded on Tuesday at Amdha village in Kaprada taluka, where farm labourers spotted a snake climbing an electric pole. The reptile reached the top and accidentally touched a high-tension power line, sending it crashing about 15 feet to the ground.

Workers found the snake unresponsive and immediately called local wildlife rescuer Mukesh Vayad. Mukesh, who has been rescuing snakes for a decade and is trained by the Snake Research Institute in Dharampur, arrived quickly and assessed the reptile’s condition.

He said he identified the snake as a non-venomous rat snake and found no signs of movement. He opened its mouth and began giving repeated rounds of CPR, interspersed with tapping its heart. After about 30 minutes of effort, the snake slowly regained respiration and soon slithered into nearby bushes.

Mukesh said the revival was one of his most challenging rescues, crediting his training and quick response for saving the animal’s life.
