A hero boy saved a schoolmate who was electrocuted on a flooded road outside a school in Thailand.

Atthachai Argudom, 13, passed by a flooded road in front of a school on his scooter when he saw the girl collapsed in the ankle-deep deluge in Udon Thani province, Thailand, on September 16.

The quick-thinking youngster, wearing his purple raincoat, jumped off his two-wheeler and waded across the water to rescue the unconscious student.

Dramatic footage shows Atthachai using a green umbrella to drag his schoolmate away from the electrical post. She was revived on the roadside and survived the incident.

Onlooker Olivia said: 'Attachai was brave and kind. He went over to rescue the girl while fully aware that he would get electrocuted too.

‘I hope this incident would encourage officials to make sure the roads are safe for students and commuters.'

The boy noticed other students shouting for help and saw someone pass out in the water, later identified as 12-year-old student Chalut Loeychaipum, and pulled over.

He used the other student's umbrella and pulled the girl towards the school gate. Fortunately, both teens survived the electrocution and were taken to Khon Kaen Center Hospital by ambulance for treatment.

Their parents have been informed about the incident, while the residents have lauded the youngster for his exceptional bravery. Meanwhile, local officials have been urged to check on the affected roads to make sure that the roads are safe for pedestrians.

Almost all roads flooded in Udon Thani municipality were submerged after more than two hours of continuous downpours. Two other students were also electrocuted in flood on the same day but survived.

Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia, such as Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts from May or June until November.

Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods which cause rivers to flow faster and become dangerous.

This year, meteorologists have blamed climate change for the sustained heavy rain, which has been hitting the Thai capital and provinces around the country causing severe floods for several weeks.

Local media reported that the country has this year seen 'an unusually sustained and persistent rainy season'.
