This is the heart-stopping moment a train crashed into a car that was stuck on a crossing in Illinois.

CCTV footage shows a busy roadway as a car turned right to cross the snow-covered railway tracks in Hinsdale on Monday, December 8.

Moments later, the vehicle became stranded on the icy rails just as an approaching Metra commuter train appeared around 11:43 am.

The locomotive then slammed into the SUV, causing it to spin out of control.

A police spokesman said: 'The train involved is currently mechanically disabled, and the passengers will be transferred to another train shortly.

'The driver and lone occupant were transported to Hinsdale Hospital for very minor injuries.'

Authorities urged motorists to always obey level crossing signals and remain vigilant near railway tracks.
