Firefighters responded to a call from residents on Fordham Avenue after a feral kitten became trapped in a backyard soccer net.

When crews from Station 4 arrived, they discovered the kitten still tightly wrapped in roughly 10 inches of netting, despite residents’ attempts to free it.

Using blunt-tipped trauma shears, firefighters carefully cut through the net, keeping the frightened animal calm. The Modesto Fire Department confirmed on social media that the kitten was rescued safely, with no injuries to the animal or the responders.

Battalion Chief Jim Black noted that the kitten ran off immediately after being freed. The department also highlighted that while Station 4 usually handles hazardous materials incidents, adding animal rescues to their expertise was a positive and rewarding task.
