Taiwanese male tourists wear traditional silk dresses at Thai temple
Taiwanese male tourists wearing traditional women's silk dresses were seen walking through a temple, amusing locals in Thailand.
The visitors were part of a group touring Wat Arun Temple, one of Bangkok's most recognisable Buddhist landmarks, on December 14.
Footage shows the first cross-dresser turning alongside a woman when they were first noticed by local Thien Poysmith. He wore a light blue silk wrap and carried a backpack on one shoulder.
Thien thought he was the only one until more from the group walked by, wearing a pink slink and a black and gold wrap dress.
The pair even had small tiaras on their heads and greeted Thien when they realised he had noticed them.
The Taiwanese tourist in pink silk said: ‘Okay?' He then gestured to ask if Thien liked their outfits and he told them the look was beautiful.
The friendly holidaymaker also told Thien they came from Taiwan before they parted ways.
Thien later said: 'Thai traditional outfit at Wat Arun is really captivating. Anyone who wears it looks beautiful.'
Traditional Thai dress, or Chut Thai, is usually made of silk with colourful patterns and elegant designs. Women wear a blouse and long skirt, while men wear a shirt with trousers or a wrapped cloth.
While it is uncommon for men to wear women's styles, doing so in a respectful manner is generally accepted, especially outside formal or sacred settings.
