Located at an altitude and surrounded by snow-covered mountains, Sonamarg often experiences extreme winter conditions. However, the recent avalanche highlighted the serious risks associated with heavy snowfall in mountainous regions.
After several days of uninterrupted snowfall, massive amounts of snow accumulated on the steep slopes around Sonamarg.
