A motorcycle rider was knocked to the ground and narrowly avoided being crushed by a truck's wheels.

CCTV footage shows the rider sliding along the road on his fallen bike in Chonburi, Thailand, on January 23.

He struck an oncoming red scooter before stopping just inches from the lorry's tyres.

The motorist rolled out of the way with light scrapes, while both motorcycles sustained only minor damage.

Resident Biw Jeeranan said: ‘I run a bakery supplies shop. At the time of the accident, I was busy serving customers in the store, so I did not go out to check exactly where he was injured.

‘I believe he only suffered minor scrapes. The accident happened at Bung Worakit in Si Racha, Chonburi. This spot sees accidents very often.'

The motorcycle riders scrambled to stand up while the lorry driver pulled over to check on them.

Onlookers also gathered to help them lift the bikes and put them on the side.

Despite being one of the wealthiest countries in Asia, Thailand suffers from chronic underinvestment in its highways and education, contributing to its poor road safety levels. Only a handful of African countries are worse.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
