This is the heroic moment a brave angler saved a teenage girl when she fell from a bridge into a canal.

Angler Wichit was fishing at Betong Canal in Yala, Thailand, when he spotted the youngster, 13, lying unconscious on a rock in shallow water.

Realising she was not moving, Wichit climbed down from the Chantarochai Bridge to check on her on January 21.

The concerned fisherman immediately alerted the police, who arrived shortly after alongside emergency responders.

Footage shows medics carefully placing the teenager on a stretcher after administering first aid.

She was then transported to Betong Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Wichit said: 'At first, I thought the girl was just playing in the water, but after a while, I realised she was not moving when I called her many times and looked at her more closely.'

Locals speculated that the girl had fallen 164ft (50 m) from the bridge into the water.

Doctors confirmed that the teenager is in a stable condition and is currently recovering. Police are investigating the incident.
