Indian doctors are baffled after finding ants in the eyes of a 11-year-old girl, who was rushed the hospital complaining of severe pain and inflammation in her eyes, in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka.

The unusual incident happened in Beltangady. Ashwini, a standard five student, had been complaining of dead ants in her eyes for some time, but the doctors haven’t been able to trace the cause.

A resident of Nellingeri village, she complained of some irritation in her eyes. Her parents had found an ant below her eyelid and believed that the same would have somehow entered her eye while she was asleep.

But when the problem continued they consulted a doctor at the local hospital and were informed that the ants had probably entered through the girl's ears. They prescribed some eye drops to help subside the irritation.

Despite the medication, nearly 5-6 ants have been coming out of her eyes daily. Finding no cure in medical science, her parents decided to consult an astrologer, who is believed to have told them that the girl is going through this due to 'Sarpa Dosha' (snake gods are revered in coastal Karnataka and people are usually wary of the dosha due to the wrath of the snake god).
Meanwhile, on Monday, the girl was taken to an eye hospital at Moodbidri by her school teachers. However the doctors, without seeing the phenomenon for themselves have reportedly said that they can't make any conclusions.
Notably, there have been many instances where doctors have found bugs, especially cockroaches making their way into people's ear canals.
