A groom was killed after he was shot by his close friend during a celebratory firing at a wedding in India.

The ghastly incident occurred in Rampur village of Lakhimpur Kheri district, Uttar Pradesh, India, on the night of April 29.

A video of the incident shows the accused, Ramchandra, in a bright orange shirt, pulling out bullets from his pocket and loading the gun. He fires two shots – while the first one misses the groom Sunil Verma, 25, the second shot hits his chest.

Verma can be seen clutching his chest and collapsing.

Ramchandra ran away from the scene and the police have launched a manhunt to nab him.

A senior police officer, Ghanshyam Chaurasi, said: “The accused has been booked for murder. Though it appears that the groom was killed during the celebratory firing, we are probing other angles too.”

Celebratory firing during wedding is illegal in India although the custom continues to be popular.
