This eleven-year-old girl was inspired to make her very own bathtub boat, following in her grandfather's footsteps more than 70 years later.

Mikalah Strickling, from Terrigal, Australia, saw a photo from the 1940s of her grandfather floating along a canal in a bathtub in the Netherlands.

Inspired by this, she decided to try the feat herself – with some helpful modifications.

Footage shows Mikalah's boat-building process – from finding an old tub in the scrapyard to setting sail by the Terrigal waterfront.

By fitting an onboard motor, a steering wheel and a plastic seat, the beaten-up bathtub is transformed into a shipshape vessel.

Although Mikalah quickly gets the hang of steering the tub, her little brother Samuel struggles and almost capsizes.

Mikalah has her own youtube channel, "InventWithMikky", where she showcases her skills as an inventor.

Using an old fibreglass bathtub, steering wheel, electric trolling motor, a plastic seat, rope and some bits of wood she constructed an awesome bathtub boat with a steering wheel to guide it.
The bathtub boat went surprisingly fast and was a lot of fun. Her school friend Noah had a go of piloting the bathtub boat and her little brother Samuel (aged 9) also had a turn. Samuel had a bit of a scare when he had turned the steering all the way to the right and when he turned on the motor, the boat surged in a circle, causing some water to enter the back of the bathtub, putting it in danger of sinking. Hilariously, a large shrimp came into the bathtub when some water came in.
Mikalah is an Australian girl who has had a recent appearance on 'Little Big Shots Australia' demonstrating her abilities as an inventor. She has since started a new YouTube Channel 'InventWithMikky' where she is hoping to inspire other children in the areas of Science and Engineering and to create and build things themselves.
