Forest officials make record-setting transport of man-eating tiger in India
Forest Rangers captured man-eating tiger alive in Madhya Pradesh after it covered 510kms from the Chandrapur power plant in Maharashtra to Sarni in MP, killing two farmers on the way.
The tiger was spotted about 40 kms away from the Satpura Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh.
Nagpur: Known as the carnivore who grew up at the Chandrapur Super Thermal Power Station in Maharashtra's Durgapur area, a two-year-old tiger who reportedly attacked and killed two farmers on his 510-km long journey from Chandrapur to the Satpura power station in Madhya Pradesh' Sarni district was caught by forest rangers. Experts claim that the journey it began on August 15 of this year has emerged as the longest recorded dispersal of a tiger in India.
The tiger had almost reached the Satpura Tiger Reserve in MP's Hoshangabad district but decided to move 40 kms away from the reserve towards Sarni where it was caught. Divisional forest officer (DFO), Sarni, Rakhi Nanda said that the majestic creature was first spotted near the fly ash pons and a marshy area on December 1.
Residents of the power station colony spotted the tiger roaming around human settlements and alerted forest rangers. News of a man-eating tiger walking the fold triggered panic in the area forcing its residents to urge forest officials to capture the animal which has been accused of killing two farmers. A senior official with the forest department said that though the tiger was preying on cattle, it felt necessary to capture him once locals reported that it was moving towards human settlement.
The incident happened on 11th December in Sarni Madhy pradesh.
