Villagers hold funeral for ancient crocodile thought to be 100 years old

A century-old crocodile died in a pond of Bawa Mohatra village, about 5 km from the Bemetra district chattisgarh IndiaThe villagers used to call this crocodile. In this footage you can see villagers allowing the crocodile in the fishing net as he is old & in the fishing net he gets lots of fish to eat. Gangaram and they considered it a member of the family. After the death of Gangaram, villagers objected to the post mortem not taking crocodile dead bodies and they protested. In view of the villagers' sentiment, the collector made a post mortem of a mortal in the village. The villagers then took the funeral procession of Gangaram along with music and farewell with damp eyes.
On Tuesday morning, the villagers who drank in the middle pond saw the crocodile float. On passing, it was found that there was no stir in it. Soon this news spread throughout the village. People came to see the crocodile.
On the information of Gangaram's death, the forest department team reached the village with police personnel. Forest official began to take the body to post mortem. The village's resisted with the demand of doing the same in the village. Seeing the attachment of the villagers to the crocodile, the collector arrange & asked the officers to do the same in the village. The body of the dead body was on the edge of the pond. The villagers buried the crocodile Gangaram in front of the new pond.
People's attachment to Gangaram was such that he was a member of the family. The villagers took his funeral from the tractor. By throwing drums, corners, flowers and colours, the gave the last part by giving emotional tribute to the humble eyes. The villagers have also decided to build a temple on the pond to make Gangaram's memory memorable.
Deputy Sarpanch Bhagirathi Yadav told that here one saints use to live & he use to call this crocodile as Gangaram. The crocodile came out of the pond as soon as he called them. Rural Shiv Sahu said that when the children used to take bath in the pond in the village, the crocodile came out and was playing with them. Due to association with people, Gangaram has not harmed anyone till date.
Deputy Magistrate Bemetra RK Sinha told that the crocodile length was 3.40 meters and the thickness was 1.30 meters. His weight was two and a half quintals. It was about 100 years old or possibly even older.
