Sick tusker left to die for 8 days is now being attended by vets after enraged villagers raise the issue with higher forest officials in Odisha, India
A wild tusker that was left to die in a sick state by the forest officials has now enraged the residents of the Tumudibandha of Kandhamal district of Odisha, India after they discovered the animal writhing in discomfort.
In the video captured by one of the residents, the tusker can be seen lying in the muddy ground as people flocked to see its condition. It can be seen that the elephant writhes in discomfort as it makes frequent movements to indicate its ill health.
The locals say that the elephant has been lying in the muddy ground for the past 8 days and no medical team was sent for it.
After the villagers raised the issue with the higher forest officials, a team of vet was sent to check for the elephant today. The vets have now administered the first dose of medication and they will come back tomorrow to give it the next course of treatment.
One of the forest officials said: “The elephant has become old and hence has fallen sick, we are trying to do our best to revive the tusker.”
“The tusker was not able to find nutritious food in the jungle due to which it has become weak and that has aggravated its health conditions.”
The tusker is said to have come from the Lankagada forest.
The vets, however, have assured the people that the elephant is being taken care of and they hope that it will get well soon.
A few villagers also tried feeding the elephant but it refused to have any food. The locals are now praying for the better health of the beast.
