Teenager in life threatening condition after single motor vehicle collision
At approximately 4:45 am, on Saturday March 2nd 2019, Halton Regional Police Service was called regarding a single motor vehicle collision in the Town of Oakville.
The vehicle was being operated by a 13-year-old Oakville resident at the time of the collision. The vehicle was travelling southbound on Eighth Line and lost control prior to the intersection with North Service Road. The vehicle continued south through a chain-link fence and onto the westbound lanes of the QEW/403. The vehicle struck the concrete median that separates the east and westbound lanes of the QEW before coming to rest.
The driver was accompanied by a 16-year-old passenger in front of the vehicle and a 14-year-old passenger in the rear of the SUV. All the occupants of the vehicle were Oakville residents.
All three parties were transported to a children's trauma centre.
The 14-year-old passenger is in critical condition, the 16-year-old passenger suffered serious injuries but is in stable condition, and the driver suffered minor injuries.
As a result of the severity of the injuries, the Collision Reconstruction Unit attended and took carriage of the investigation.
Police continue to investigate the collision and no charges have been laid against the driver at this time. Police believe speed and inexperience were both contributing factors in the collision.
