In a shocking case of mob justice, a woman was thrashed by locals in India's southern Karnataka state, for allegedly failing to repay her loans.

The incident took place on June 13 in Kodigehalli, a suburb of the state capital Bengaluru.

Visuals showed the victim being tied to a concrete pole as a group of people, mostly men, casually chatted around her. Throughout the 60 second clip, she kept her head down.

Reports said locals too matters into their own hands and meted out the punishment- tie her up and thrash her for almost an entire day.

He neighbours are said to have initiated proceedings, as she failed to repay the loans.

The victim, identified as Rajamma, runs a small store in the area.

It is not known if a complaint has been registered by police or not.
