A Thai firefighter removed a huge python from its hiding place on top of a car engine.

The 3.6m reptile had slithered inside the vehicle -- a dry place for it to shelter from rainstorms in Bangkok -- on 18 June.

Expert snake catcher Phinyo Pukphinyo, 49, arrived with his team and carefully removed the giant snake without causing any harm to the creature.

It was then put inside a bag and taken back to the fire station to be released back into the wild.

Phinyo said: "Snakes will often search for dry, warm places to shelter during the rainy season. It's lucky the driver didn't use the car while the snake was in the engine or it could have been seriously hurt."

In Thailand's capital Bangkok the rainy season runs roughly from May to October.
