A clogged river in the Philippines full of garbage is finally getting cleaned up as the local community gear up for the typhoon season.

The cleanup drive was organized by the local government with the help of local residents in Manila on June 28.

Resident Aristotle Ilumba said: "We try to clean the river from time to time, but when the rain comes, the garbage from different places get pushed here where there is narrow passage."

Metro Manila has one of the country's worst garbage problem producing over 9.2 million kilos of waste per day most of which end up in bodies of water.
