This is the horrifying moment a wild python was caught trying to swallow a farmer's goose.

The 13ft long snake pounced on the hapless bird which had been sheltering inside the coop during rain in Nakhon Ratchasima, northeastern Thailand last Friday (August 30).

Stunned locals found the reptile wrapped around the goose.

The farm owner said: ''I was very shocked to find the snake was coiled around the goose and about to eat it.

''I don't know where the snake actually came from but it might have been living in the wasteland behind the farm.''

The goose was already dead when volunteers from the Sawang Wicha Thamma Sathan Foundation arrived.

They prodded then went inside to catch the snake before it had a chance to swallow the rest of the bird.

Footage shows how the predator released the animal and hid in the corner when the rescuers were approaching.

Two snake catchers spent about 20 minutes catching the serpent with a lasso.

It was bagged up before being released back into the wild.
