A video obtained from the forest officials shows the rescue of three wild elephants who had fallen into a trench in Sri Lanka.

The incident took place at the ancient Buddhist monastery of Ritigala on October 22, 2019.

According to Ritigala Wildlife Officers, the elephant and two of her calves fell into the ditch inside the forest.

They were spotted by a few local farmers who later alerted the officials.

A rescue team was rushed to the spot, who used a crane to dig a cavern creating a track for the animals to walk out.

All three animals have been rescued and released safely into the forest.
