At least five cars have been damaged with a 500-year-old banyan tree uprooting on them due to the ferocious winds that lashed northern India's Himachal Pradesh.

The incident took place at Dumehar village in Arki sub-division of Solan district on May 10.

A powerful storm, featuring drenching rain and damaging winds, have pummeled the entire area since the morning.

Following this, the tree was uprooted and fell on the cars stationed nearby.

The forest department team was alerted who commenced the rescue operations to assess the damage.

According to locals, the banyan tree has been there since their forefathers' generations.

Due to the storm, locals were inside their homes when the incident had happened.

However, no casualties have been reported due to the fall.
